Donal Skehan

Donal Skehan is a 31-year-old food writer and TV host. He has published many cookbooks including his latest one Eat Live Go. Donal also has had a few cooking shows, one of which is one RTE at the moment, Donal's Meals In Minutes.

Donal Skehan has made Ireland proud in the cookery world, some people may call him the Irish Jamie Oliver. He is a great role model for young chefs and can inspire people around the world.

What sparked your interest in cooking?

My family have always worked in the food industry so I grew up around it in many different ways.

A typical day on your plate?

Writing recipes, photographing food, filming in my kitchen and trying new restaurants.

Who and/or what inspires you?

Travel is one of my big inspirations- I love to travel all over the world to try new foods and I’m also inspired by the community who enjoy the recipes I write- it’s important to listen to what they want while also trying to create inspirational recipes.

Your favourite type of exercise?

Hot Yoga- I’m obsessed with it- I try to go every day!

How often do you exercise?

Almost every day!

How do you take care of your mental health?

Regular exercise, balanced diet and I try to meditate once a day. I also keep a journal of the things I’m grateful for each day- it’s a good reminder that the world isn’t half bad! :)

Some advice to your 16-year-old self?

Don’t eat so many tangle twister ice pops…
