Earthling Sasha Smoothie bOWL

Hi, I’m Sasha, and I am a 15 year old vegan girl living in Sydney, Australia. I have been vegan for about 1 and a half years, and don’t see myself turning back, ever. I love being active, alongside baking, cooking and presenting nourishing yet delicious food. I have a huge passion for food photography too.

I always get hungry when I look at Sasha's insta because her food always looks incredible. Even though we are the same age Sasha really inspires me and I am so happy to have been able to interview her for my blog.

What sparked your interest in health?

I think what sparked my interest in health was the alarming information I was reading when researching about veganisim and plant based diets. I was shocked to find out about the truth that eating meat and dairy could do to our bodies. I was always an active kid, which is probably why I was more conscious about what I was putting in my body.

A typical day on your plate?

Mmmh, this is hard. Lets see… I usually always make myself a green smoothie bowl in the mornings. It’s filled with veggies and fruits, and protein to kickstart the day, and it’s actually super super yummy, especially with all the fruits in it.  Might sound gross, but trust me, my smoothie bowls are too good. 

For lunch, it can vary between wraps, falafels, soups, salads, stir fry’s, anything I’m craving really. I say dinner is when I’m either really lazy or really motivated. So it’s either a simple stir fry, rice or pasta, or if I’m motivated, maybe a nice buddha bowl or curry. Can’t forget the snacks though. I eat a lot of fruit throughout the day + nuts (a must for me) + and if I'm feeling peckish, I will sometimes make myself a toast.

Your top five foods for better health?

  1. All fruits but I’ll have to go with watermelon- super hydrating fruit!.
  2. Avocados - healthy fats are essential!
  3. Nuts - more healthy fats!
  4. Legumes - chickpeas, beans, etc
  5. Greens - kale and spinach are my fav!

One food you could not live without?

Watermelon.

Have you a motto you live by?

Not really, no

Who and/or what inspires you?

I think my mum inspires me the most. She is such an awesome person, inside and out, is an INCREDIBLE chef, and her ethics and morals align with me. I strive to become like her once I’m older :) 

Your favourite type of exercise?

Ooo, this is hard. I love soccer, swimming, dancing and running. I think currently, my fav type of exercise is running. So more into cardiovascular exercise!

How often do you exercise?

I exercise when I feel like it or when I’m feeling groggy and need to get refreshed. I find sticking to a schedule is too restricting for me.

How do you take care of your mental health?

I love to read when I’m feeling down, or taking a nice hot bath. I think going on long runs really helps me clear my mind too! I’m not really into writing my feelings.

Some advice to your 16-year-old self?

I think all I can give is - go with the flow. Don’t be so serious and don’t take life so hard. Have fun and find time to do the things you enjoy. Find balance in your life too.

What are the key things you have learned in your journey into health and wellbeing?

  1. WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT BODIES. What works for you may not work for someone else. 
  2. It's all about balance. There’s no such thing as ‘bad food’, not when you have it in moderation.
  3. Mental health is your no. 1 priority
  4. Do what makes you happy :)
