What sparked your interest in health?
I think it stemmed from developing such an unhealthy relationship with food, I used to yo-yo diet and go crazy into fitness. I slowly began to understand that wasn’t a sustainable way to life your life. I educated myself on the importance of health and how eating a good diet and exercising can help your body live longer and fight disease. I now eat a healthy balanced diet and workout out to help my body become stronger.
A typical day on your plate?
A nice mix of protein, good carbs and fats. I’m loving pizza omelets at the moment – topping it with lots of delicious veg, meats and feta.
Your top five foods for better health?
- Fruit – in moderation
One food you could not live without?
Eggs – they’re so versatile!
Who and/or what inspires you?
So many things! I watch a lot of documentaries on the accomplishments of people and I’m always in awe. From ultra-marathon runners to people who have changed their whole lifestyle for the better by opting for healthier foods – the human body and mind is pretty amazing.
Your favourite type of exercise?
I love boxing. It’s a great mix of cardio and strength and agility – it makes you concentrate really hard and react quickly to movements.
How often do you exercise?
It changes weekly, it depends on my work schedule and how my body is feeling. I try exercise daily but if my body needs a break I’ll take it. I’ll at least get outdoors for 30 mins even if it’s just walking Wilko, my dog, to get fresh air and get my body moving.
How do you take care of your mental health?
By exercising! It’s the one time my mind switches off and I’m not thinking about work just what I’m doing in that moment of time. After my workout, I feel focused again and relaxed.
Some advice to your 16-year-old self?
Enjoy not having many responsibilities yet!
What are the key things you have learned in your journey into health and wellbeing?
My outlook on food. When deciding what to eat I look at what will fuel my body and benefit it. What food will help me become stronger and provide all the nutrients I need. I had never looked at food that way and I have a much healthier relationship with food now and automatically drawn to healthier foods.
