Wernou

Werner Schwich is 22 and French.

He has lived mostly around France but also in the US (Los Angeles) and UK (London) for a few years. Werner just finished his degree in a Business School. He has now started working in Digital Marketing in a French start-up. He also runs the popular food instagram account @wernou

Whenever I look at Werner's page, I am automatically hungry. His food pictures always look amazing. I am so inspired by his page and blog and am so happy to have been able to interview hime for mine.

What sparked your interest in health?

I’d say Instagram was a big part of it. I’ve always been interested in food/cooking but seeing tons of people around the world embark on a healthier lifestyle made me want to be a part of it.

I used to eat junk food a lot when I was a kid but with time I found much more pleasure in eating foods better for my health. So about 1 year ago I started going to the gym occasionally and eating in a more “balanced” way and now I just feel like I wouldn’t want to look back on this change.

A typical day on your plate?

I’m a creature of habits, so my mornings usually start in the same way: a latte + a savoury breakfast spread, usually composed of toasts, eggs and avocado. If I’m up for it, I’ll also add some smoked salmon, sautéed mushrooms or sub the toasts for roasted sweet potatoes.

Lunch varies a lot depending on where I am, but if I can find it / prepare it I’ll have a salad with a protein source (chicken, ham, tofu…) + tons of veggies + nuts/seeds + some carbs (quinoa, rice, pasta…). If lacking time, a loaded sandwich will do the trick ;). I almost always snack in the afternoon. If I’m home, I’ll have something sweet like a yogurt bowl + protein powder + fruits otherwise a bar is pretty good too.

Dinners vary too, but I like to prepare food that is “warm” especially in winter. I love grilled salmon, broccoli and rice.....baked chicken, butternut and quinoa… it depends but the same patterns remain (protein, carb, some healthy fats and tons of veggies).

One food you could not live without?

Haha this question is tough, there are just so many. Probably eggs as they are versatile and can be cooked in so many ways. Otherwise toasts, I just eat so much bread daily and not having it for one day feels like eternity.

My family, a lot, for about every aspect of my life. Some well-known business people, such as Angela Ahrendts for their professional career and many Instagrammer's (@leefromamerica, @shutthekaleup, @beazysbites…) for healthy living + fitness/wellness.

 

 

Your favourite type of exercise?

I’ve been loving working out using weights at the gym recently. Otherwise I really want to try Crossfit.

How often do you exercise?

Usually about 3, 4 or 5 times a week depending on my schedule / working hours / plans with family or friends.

How do you take care of your mental health?

I think it’s all about finding what works for you. But personally waking up early and having time for myself in the morning makes me feel a lot greater during the day.

Some advice to your 16-year-old self?

Don’t rush. Having 3 older sisters, I’ve always wanted things to move forward… and especially to finish my studies and enter the professional world. Looking back, I should have probably taken advantage of all the free and fun times I had as a student.

What are the key things you have learned in your journey into health and wellbeing?

Probably not being too strict or stubborn with food choices. If I eat 3 times more than usual during the Christmas season, or just at a party with friends, it’s actually no big deal. I used to think a pizza would ruin all the efforts at the gym, but I now don’t. Life’s all about balance :)
