Spelt Pizza Dough
I WANT A PI-ZZA THAT!
I mean come on, basically everyone loves pizza but having domino's on speed dial may not be the best decision for your health (its perfectly fine in moderation).
After many requests from my friends to create a healthier version, I have finally done it. This thin and crispy pizza is the ultimate dish. Load it with your fave toppings and BAM you have your new go-to pizza, that is delicious and nutritious.
Serves 3 (one base each);
- 350g Spelt Flour, + more for rolling ( I use wholemeal but you can use plain)
- 1x 7g sachet yeast
- 180g warm water
- 1/2 tbsp honey or maple
- pinch of salt
- Toppings of choice; Tomato sauce, cheese, tomatoes, veggies etc.
In a mixing bow,. stir together 175g of the four, the warm water, the honey and the yeast. Let the mix sit for 20 minutes for the yeast to become active. Add in the rest of the flour and the salt. Stir and begin to mix with your hands, slightly knead the dough. Form a ball of dough and cover the bowl with a tea-towel.
Let it sit for an hour and a half, the dough shod roughly double in size. Divide into the balls and let them sit for another 15 minutes.
preheat your oven to 250*c
Spread some extra flour onto a surface, roll each ball of dough, with a rolling pin, to your preferred size (I like mine thin and crispy).
Line 3 trays and bake each base for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and top with your fave toppings. Place it back in the oven for about another 10 minutes. Until you cheese, if using, is melted and the crust of the pizza is nice and crispy, ENJOY!
My fave topping combos;
The Classic Margerita; Tomato marinara, fresh buffalo mozzarella, basil
Goaty One; Tomato marinara, goats cheese or feta, rocket, pine nuts
Pesto; Basil Pesto, fresh tomatoes, pecorino or parmesan
Vegan; Tomato marinara, fresh veg, vegan cheese or cashew cream
